Stoles are the formal sign of ordination in our church. Pastors wear it behind the neck with both sides in front; ordained deacons wear it across the body with both ends clasped together at the hip. Stoles are given as a reminder of the “yoke of obedience” to Christ, referencing Matthew 11:28-30 which concludes “my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Like the altar paraments several weeks ago, stoles are worn matching the church season and usually
have images and symbols of that season.
