Albs, chausables, narthex, euwers, font, paten, corporals, oh my! The church has many odd names for things we use similar items to our regular lives: robes, shawls, foyer, pitchers, bowls, plates, and placemats. These special names sometimes come from older names or Latin words for the items or things they resemble. In any case, the name is different to note that the item is set apart for special use in our worship of God. The items themselves are not special, they are often made of the same materials as their cousins we use in our homes, but their purpose is specific, helping us to worship God.
